Wise Wombat checks location and spatial continuity across chapters so authors can inspect contradictory place evidence.
Issue guide
Location continuity error
How to find setting, room, travel, sightline, entrance, exit, weather, and object-placement inconsistencies.
Symptoms
What it looks like
These are common signals that the manuscript may need a focused continuity review.
- A room gains or loses a door.
- A journey takes different routes or distances without reason.
- Weather, light, landmarks, or object placement reset between connected scenes.
Cause
Why it happens
Location errors often appear when action scenes are revised, maps change, or late edits add a new route through a familiar place.
Fix
Practical repair path
The author still decides what is true in the story. The useful move is to review evidence and choose a canonical version.
- Choose the canonical geography or room layout.
- Update blocking, exits, sightlines, and object positions.
- If the change is intentional, give the reader a reason to trust it.
Example
Tiny example
A basement has no windows during a hiding scene, but moonlight later enters through a basement window.
