Use PDF when an exported reading file is the clearest current manuscript source.

What matters most
PDF can be useful when you want Wise Wombat to review the text in an exported reading file. Use a text-based PDF, not a scanned image PDF, so the manuscript can be extracted reliably.
- Use DOCX instead if the draft is still changing heavily.
- Avoid uploading proof PDFs that include printer marks or layout-only artifacts.
- If the PDF came from scanning paper, OCR it before running a continuity check.

Confirm the text is selectable
Open the PDF and select a paragraph. If you cannot select text, run OCR or export from the source document first.

Check chapter order
Skim the first pages, table of contents, and final pages to catch missing or duplicated sections before upload.

Keep the editable source nearby
PDF findings point back to extracted text, but fixes usually belong in the source manuscript file.
